In the back of my mind, I know Elon Musk is doing great things for humanity. I've yet to get on the hype train for Elon Musk, and I think this is the same for a lot of people. If someone talks about Steve Jobs, you start thinking about what an innovative, creative genius he was. Well, a lot of people think that, besides my friend Press. Press views him as a self-centered, child-ignoring jerk.
Anyways, Elon Musk is doing a lot of great things and I need to start paying more attention to him. I don't think electric cars would be as far along as they are if it wasn't for him and Tesla. Companies need competition. I firmly believe that COMPETITION is good for consumers. I don't know much about SpaceX, but if we royally screw up Earth, SpaceX might be our only hope to settle on another planet.
So I want to look at two companies that Elon Musk is a part of, Tesla and Solar City.
Solar City - http://www.solarcity.com/ - Stock Ticker SCTY - Stock Price closed today at $20.14.
Tesla - https://www.tesla.com/ - Stock Ticker TSLA - Stock Price closed today at at $199.10.
Solar City, working on solar powered energy, is very exciting to me. I've been interested in solar energy since I was kid playing Sim City 2000 on my computer. Unfortunately, with things I've read, the market for solar energy isn't stable.
Tesla is best known for electric cars. I'm not in the market for a new car, nor could I afford a Tesla. I think I'll be driving a gas car for about 10 more years, and then I think electric cars will be pretty affordable for the average person.
I'm interested in buying one of these stocks. Neither one of these companies pays dividends, but they are SUPER earth/green conscious. If I decide to buy Tesla stock, I'll have to sell some stocks to be able to afford it. I think buying one of these stocks would put me in the mindset more of respecting Elon Musk and learning more about the great things he's doing.
